Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa: Applications Closed 2024
Last Updated on 22 April 2024

Update: Cyprus is no longer accepting digital nomad visa applications as all 500 spots have been filled. The below article is a review of what the Cyprus digital nomad visa was.
Remote workers and entrepreneurs can now live on a gorgeous Mediterranean island with the new Cyprus digital nomad visa.
The new scheme set to attract digital nomads to Cyprus allows these remote workers to live in the country for one year, with the option to renew for another two years. However, there is a catch to the Cyprus digital nomad visa. Initially, they are only accepting 100 applicants for the visa.
Update March 2022: Cyprus has increased the number of digital nomad visas available from 100 to 500.
Update January 2024: Cyprus is no longer accepting digital nomad visa applications.
Holders of the visa must stay in Cyprus for at least 60 days out of the year without leaving the country for more than three months at a time. This is excellent news for those who want to travel to nearby destinations.
If you live in Cyprus for more than 183 days out of the year, you will be considered a tax resident, even if you hold the digital nomad visa. Youโll be subject to paying taxes to Cyprus unless you are a tax resident elsewhere.
Donโt let this scare you, though. Cyprus is known for its excellent tax rates, especially for corporations and small businesses.
Applicants may bring their spouse and dependents with them to Cyprus on the digital nomad visa.
Cyprus, which is part of the European Union but is not part of the Schengen Area, joins other EU countries in offering a digital nomad visa including Croatia, the Czech Republic, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Hungary, and Estonia.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
A digital nomad visa is a residence permit for remote workers to live in a foreign country anywhere from six months to two years.
Applicants must prove that they work remotely for a company or clients outside of the country for which they are requesting the visa. Entrepreneurs must have businesses established in another country and self-employed individuals may not have clients within the country where they hold the visa.
This is perfect for digital nomads who want to settle down for a bit in a foreign country without worrying about overstaying their tourist visas.
Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa Requirements
As with any visa, there are certain requirements you must meet in order to be eligible to obtain it. Below are the requirements for the Cyprus digital nomad visa.
- Valid Passport – Must be valid for at least 3 months after arrival in Cyprus
- Proof of Remote Work – Employment contracts or business documents proving you work remotely
- Earn at least 3,500โฌ/month – You must meet the income minimum
- Earn 4,200โฌ/month if bringing a spouse
- Earn 4,830โฌ/month if bringing a spouse and one dependent
- With each dependent, the minimum income requirement increases by 15%
- Proof of Income – Submit certified bank statements and payslips proving your income earnings
- Proof of Health Insurance – You must have at least 30,000โฌ coverage in health and accident insurance in Cyprus
- Clean Criminal Record – You must submit a certified background check from your country of origin
- Address of Accommodations – A rental agreement or proof of sale for where youโll stay in Cyprus
If you meet these requirements, you may submit an application for the digital nomad visa.
Steps to Apply
Applying for the Cyprus digital nomad visa is fairly simple. You will have to locate the nearest consulate to submit your application, though.
Step 1: Gather Documents
Before you begin filling out your application or make an appointment at the consulate, itโs a good idea to gather all of the necessary documents. Youโll need the following to apply for the visa:
- Valid Passport
- Notarized Passport Sized Photos (2)
- Proof of Remote Work
- Proof of Income
- Criminal Background Check
- Proof of Health Insurance
- Address of Accommodations
- CV and/or Resume
- Letter of Intent for Living in Cyprus
Once you have all of these documents youโre one step closer to submitting your application.
Step 2: Submit Your Application
Schedule an appointment at your nearest Cyprus embassy or consulate to submit your application.
You can most likely find the application form online from the consulateโs website. If you are applying within the United States, you can use this application here. You must also have your signature on the application notarized by a Notary.
There will be a visa application fee. Again, if applying in the US, you can expect to pay 20โฌ for a single-entry visa or 60โฌ for a multiple-entry visa.
Be sure to apply for the visa at least three weeks before your intended departure date.
Step 3: Wait for Approval
It can take anywhere from two to three months to receive an answer about your visa application. However, it can be shorter depending on the consulate and how many applications theyโve received.
Cyprus for Digital Nomads
With year-round sun and ideal temperatures, Cyprus is one of the few digital nomad paradises in the European Union. With excellent wifi networks and a hub of entrepreneurs, digital nomads can work productively and successfully while in the country.
Cyprus is also considered one of the safest countries in the world! This is a major benefit, especially for digital nomads who travel on their own. Plus, the residents are extremely friendly and welcoming to newcomers, making you feel right at home.
The cost of living is quite affordable considering the high-quality lifestyle you can expect to live while in Cyprus. Not to mention, the beaches are absolutely fantastic for soaking in the sun after a long day of sitting in front of your computer.
Youโll find a large digital nomad and ex-pat community thanks to the amazing weather and great tax structure. From nightlife to nature walks to exploring new cities, youโll never be bored while living in Cyprus as a digital nomad. With the mesh of Greek and Turkish cultures, youโll also get to experience unique traditions and taste some of the best food in the Mediterranean.
