Known for its mouth-watering steak dishes, pristine beaches, and being in a favorable timezone, Uruguay is inviting digital nomads to live in the country for six months to one year.
The Uruguay digital nomad visa is also one of the easiest to obtain, both in the application process and eligibility requirements.
While applicants cannot apply with spouses or dependents, it wonโt matter because virtually everyone is eligible! So, youโll just have to submit individual applications.
Uruguay joins other South American nations, such as Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, and Brazil in welcoming remote workers to experience the beauty and culture of their countries.
In this article, weโll break down the eligibility requirements, how to apply for the Uruguay digital nomad visa, and answer some of the most common questions digital nomads have about the new visa.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
Before we dive into the specifics of the Uruguay digital nomad visa, letโs first establish what a digital nomad visa is.
A digital nomad visa is a temporary residence permit that allows remote workers to relocate to a foreign country.
Typically, these visas are valid for six months to a year and are renewable. Many allow family members to apply together, and some can even lead to permanent residency.
Some digital nomad visas have online applications, while others are a bit more complicated and require assistance from an immigration lawyer.
Itโs important to note that digital nomad visas do not give applicants the right to seek local employment in the country. They must earn a livable wage working remotely, earning money from outside of where they hold their visa.

To be eligible for the Uruguay digital nomad visa, you must meet the following:

- Clean Criminal Record – If you wish to renew your visa for another six months, you must have a clean criminal record
