Do you dream of living in Portugal, riding the tramcar, drinking wine while watching the sunset over the beach? Now you can with the Portugal D7 visa

Portugal is one of the many European countries currently offering a long-stay visa to remote workers and retirees. With this visa, you can live in Portugal for up to one year and work remotely from one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Previously, we referred to the Portugal D7 visa as a digital nomad visa, as many remote workers are eligible for the visa. However, in October 2022, the government announced an official Portugal digital nomad visa.

The Portugal D7 visa allows you to live in the country for two years on a D7 visa. However, it is renewable and allows you to stay for another three years. After five years of living in Portugal, you can apply for permanent residency if you pass a basic Portuguese language test.

Why Portugal?

Portugal is one of the hottest trending digital nomad destinations. There are massive communities in Lisbon and Porto. You can find hip cafes, restaurants, bars, and awesome coworking spaces in both of these cities.

Plus, every night youโ€™ll get to experience stunning sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy sunny days on the sandy beaches.

Walk through this European country and admire the architecture, art museums, and incredible cuisine of fresh seafood and delicate pastries. Not to mention, the weather is almost always sunny and warm.

Portugal is a leader in the world for digital nomads. They also opened the very first digital nomad village in February 2021.

Another perk of being a holder of the Portugal digital nomad visa is that youโ€™ll have access to the 26 countries in the Schengen Area.

It is important to note that the visa requires you to be in Portugal for 16 months during the two-year visa, and 28 months during the three-year renewal without being out of the country for more than six months at a time.

Another amazing benefit of being a digital nomad in Portugal is the 10-year tax exemption on income not sourced from Portugal. This is known as the โ€œnon-habitual residentโ€ NHR tax status. Be sure to consult a tax professional in Portugal for more clarification.
