What is the Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa?
Costa Rica’s digital nomad visa allows remote workers and their family (including dependent parents) to live in Costa Rica for up to two years. It only takes two weeks to process your digital nomad visa application and you won’t be taxed locally when living in Costa Rica!

The Importance of Documents When Applying for a Visa
The required documents for your digital nomad visa application are undeniably important. One incorrect or missing document could result in a visa refusal!

Documents for the Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa
Below is a general list of required documents for the Costa Rica digital nomad visa.
Valid Passport
You will need to submit a photo of your valid passport.
If you are already in Costa Rica and applying for the digital nomad visa, you must also submit a photo of the entry stamp you received when entering the country.
Remote Work Contracts
You must submit proof that you work remotely as an employee or freelancer for a company or clients established outside of Costa Rica. If you are a business owner, you must also show proof that your business is established outside of Costa Rica.
12 Months of Bank Statements and Signed Affidavit
To prove your income, you must present one year of bank statements showing deposits of at least $3,000 per month (for individuals) or $4,000 per month (for remote workers bringing family members).
It is also required to submit a signed affidavit from your bank to certify the bank statements are true.
Signed Request Form
There is a form to request the visa that you must fill out, print, and sign from the official visa application platform.
International Health Insurance Policy
You must present an international health insurance policy (check out Genki or Safetywing!) that covers you in Costa Rica for the duration of the visa.
Proof of Relationship
If you plan to bring a spouse or dependents, you must provide proof of your relationship.
For spouses, you must present a marriage certificate issued no more than six months before applying for the visa.
For dependent children, you must present a birth certificate.
Entry Visa (if applicable)
If your nationality requires an entry visa to visit Costa Rica, you must also apply for it separately and include it in your documents when applying for the Costa Rica digital nomad visa.
Do Documents Need to Be Translated to Spanish?
Yes, all of the documents you submit must be translated into Spanish by an accredited translator.
Which Documents Require an Apostille?
