Digital Nomad Visa

One of the main factors in choosing which digital nomad visa to apply for is the minimum income requirement. For those remote workers just starting out or venturing into a new job, here are some digital nomad visas with no income requirement.

There are various digital nomad visas with income requirements spanning from just $900 per month to $3,500 per month and beyond!

Don’t let the minimum income requirement discourage you from applying for one and moving abroad temporarily, though.

If you are confident that you earn enough working remotely to support yourself in a new country, then I recommend checking out this list of digital nomad visas with no income requirement.

What is a Digital Nomad Visa?

A digital nomad visa allows remote workers to temporarily relocate to a foreign country. These remote workers will support themselves with the income they earn working remotely, as they are not allowed to seek local employment on the visa.

The same is true for digital nomad visas with no income requirement. While the applicant does not have to earn a certain amount of money to be eligible for the visa, they must still have the funds to support themselves.

When granted a digital nomad visa, remote workers can live in a foreign country for six months to a year, sometimes with the option to renew it and stay longer.

In some cases, the digital nomad visa could even lead to permanent residency!

Why Do Digital Nomad Visas Have Income Requirements?

You may be wondering why some digital nomad visas have income requirements and others do not.

Every digital nomad visa’s requirements differ depending on the country and government that created the laws surrounding it.

Many countries impose an income requirement to ensure the applicant can live on the income they earn while working remotely without seeking local employment or engaging in economic business activities within the country.

The goal of a digital nomad visa, from a country’s aspect, is to boost the local economy by welcoming new residents without taking jobs away from its citizens. This is often referred to as “smart tourism.”

The minimum income requirement is often determined by doubling or even tripling the country’s average minimum salary. This also protects the country’s social resources, so digital nomads don’t have to rely on them.

Anguilla

Anguilla’s digital nomad visa allows remote workers to live on the Caribbean island for an entire year.

With absolutely no income requirement, it’s an excellent choice for remote employees and freelancers who are just beginning their digital nomad journeys. It’s also an advantageous opportunity for university students taking online classes!

While there isn’t a minimum income requirement, there is a hefty application fee of $2,000 per individual applicant. But, just think of this as an investment to escape those cold winters to live on a tropical island for a year!

Visa Requirements

  • Valid passport
  • Work remotely or enrolled in a university with online classes
  • Health insurance coverage in Anguilla
  • Clean criminal record
  • Entry visa (if applicable)

Armenia

While Armenia doesn’t necessarily have an official digital nomad visa, they do offer a great opportunity that many digital nomads can qualify for.

You can apply for temporary or permanent residency simply by registering a freelance business or as a sole proprietor in Armenia. With favorable tax rates and access to the country’s resources, this is an excellent opportunity for digital nomads looking to diversify their lifestyle and assets.

Applicants do not have to provide any income or bank statements to apply, either.

There is also no minimum stay requirement! So, you can hold permanent residency in Armenia without ever stepping foot in the country. Plus, after just three years of residency, you can apply for Armenian citizenship if you wish.

Visa Requirements

  • Valid passport
  • Work remotely
  • Willing to open a business in Armenia

Bermuda

With the Work from Bermuda Certificate, remote workers and students can live in Bermuda for 12 months.

This digital nomad visa has an online application process that takes just 15 minutes to complete. Applicants will also receive an answer about their visa within five days of submitting their documents.

Bermuda is a strategic location for remote workers, especially those employed by companies or attending universities on the US’s east coast, as it’s in a similar time zone.

However, if you’re looking for year-round tropical weather, Bermuda may not be the choice for you. While it’s an island, it does get some mild winter weather requiring a sweater and coat. However, this business-oriented British Territory is a unique destination to live for a year.

While this is one of the digital nomad visas with no income requirement, authorities can still request that you submit a bank statement. With Bermuda’s elevated cost of living, you need to have the funds to support yourself on the island.

Visa Requirements

  • Valid passport
  • Proof of remote work or letter of enrollment
  • Health insurance coverage in Bermuda
  • Clean criminal record
  • Substantial income or funds

Brazil

As one of the most adventurous destinations for digital nomads, Brazil offers a great opportunity for those who wish to relocate to the country for a year.

There are two financial requirement options for applicants to take advantage of with Brazil’s digital nomad visa.

The first is a minimum income requirement of at least $1,500 per month.

However, the second option is a bit more favorable for some, as it only requires you to have $18,000 in your bank account.

So, while you do need to show some proof of income and finances, there is an option where you don’t have to actively earn an income each month.

Visa Requirements

  • Valid passport
  • Work remotely
  • Have $18,000 in your bank account
  • Health insurance coverage in Brazil
  • Clean criminal record

Check out the visa requirements and the application process in our step-by-step guide for the Brazil digital nomad visa.

With an online application process and minimal visa and application fees, it’s one of the easiest digital nomad visas to apply for.

Similar to Brazil’s financial requirements, Cape Verde also requires applicants to maintain a minimum bank balance. However, the amount is much lower.

Digital nomad visa applicants must have at least $1,500 in their bank accounts for the last six months when applying for the Cape Verde visa.

Applicants can bring their spouses and dependents with them and explore these unique islands while working remotely.

Visa Requirements

  • Valid passport

Do I Have to Show Bank Statements When Applying for a Digital Nomad Visa?

While we have listed the digital nomad visas with no income requirement, you may still have to show your bank statements to an immigration official. This is purely to prove that you can support yourself while in the country with your current funds and income.

Just because there is no set minimum income requirement, you do still need the financial resources to get by.

Will I Owe Taxes When I Apply for a Digital Nomad Visa with No Income Requirement?

As I mentioned earlier, every digital nomad visa’s requirements and policies are different. Some countries will require you to pay taxes if you stay in the country for more than 183 days.

However, some digital nomad visas, mostly in the Caribbean, do not require you to pay tax on your worldwide income. This could save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each year!

This is just one of the factors to consider when deciding which digital nomad visa to apply for.
