Kenya Digital Nomad Visa: Coming Soon (Oct. 2024)
Digital nomads who have wanted to explore one of the most beautiful countries in Africa may soon be able to make their dreams come true with the recently announced Kenya digital nomad visa.
On October 2, 2024, during the Magical Kenya Travel Expo in Nairobi, Kenya’s President William Ruto announced plans to launch the Digital Nomad Work Permit. This is part of a larger initiative for the country to attract 5 million tourists per year to Kenya by 2027.
As digital nomad visas become more popular across the globe, with countries like South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia launching their own versions, this year, countries in Africa are also looking to attract smart travelers. Kenya joins Namibia, South Africa, Mauritius, and Seychelles to officially invite digital nomads to the region.
At this time, we do not have much information about the proposed Kenya digital nomad visa, but Nomads Embassy will update this article as new information is released.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
A digital nomad visa is a temporary permit that allows remote workers and sometimes their family members to live abroad. Those eligible for this type of visa must work remotely either as an employee, freelancer, or business owner for companies or clients established abroad.
In some cases, a digital nomad visa could lead to permanent residency and, eventually, citizenship.
It is important to understand that applying for a digital nomad visa does not give you the right to engage in local economic activity. In other words, you may not seek local employment.
