What is the Hungary Digital Nomad Visa?
Hungary introduced its digital nomad visa in 2022, which allows remote workers to live in the country for up to two years. Officially known as the White Card, this incentive is for single applicants who wish to explore the country’s cities and impeccable infrastructure.
This visa does not allow applicants to include spouses or dependents. You can also apply online or in the country if you can enter Hungary visa-free. If you require an entry visa, then you must apply through a Hungarian consulate.
The good news is that Hungary’s visa is one of the fastest digital nomad visas to get in Europe. The processing time is just about 30 days.
Hungary Digital Nomad Visa Requirements
Before diving into the list of required Hungary digital nomad visa documents, it’s first important to figure out if you are even eligible for this visa.
You must meet the eligibility requirements below:
- Valid Passport – Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your visa expires
- Proof of Remote Work – You must work as a freelancer, employee, or business owner for a company outside of Hungary
- Earn at least 3,000€/month* (net) – You must meet this minimum income amount
- International Health Insurance – You must have health/travel insurance coverage for the duration of your visa
- Address of Accommodations – Present a lease or sale agreement of where you will live in Hungary

What Hungary Digital Nomad Visa Documents Do You Need to Submit?
You may be surprised to learn that Hungary’s digital nomad visa requires some of the least documents with their application compared to other countries, like Spain.
Below is a general list of Hungary digital nomad visa documents required to apply.
Copy of Passport
You must present a copy of your passport showing that it is valid for at least six months after your intended exit date from Hungary.
So, if you plan to stay in Hungary for two years, your passport must be valid for at least 31 months at the time of applying for the visa.
Remote Work Contracts
One of the most important Hungary digital nomad visa documents is the proof that you work remotely. This can be in the form of
- Certified statement from your employer
- Proof of business establishment (if you own your business)
Bank Statements from the Previous Six Months
One of the requirements for Hungary’s digital nomad visa is that the applicant earns at least 3,000€ per month net. To prove this, you must show bank statements and/or tax documents proving that you have earned this amount for the last six months.
Additionally, you will have to continue earning this amount throughout your time in Hungary. So, your work contracts should be valid for at least one year when applying.
Address of Accommodations in Hungary
While the Hungary digital nomad visa documents have been pretty straightforward so far, proof of accommodations is the tricky part. Hungary requires applicants to have secured a place to stay for the duration of their one-year residence permit when applying for the visa. Yes, you read that right.
You must have secured a place to stay before your digital nomad visa application has been accepted.
While this may seem a bit backward, it is fairly common for digital nomad visas to require this from their applicants.

International Health Insurance
During your stay in Hungary, you must have health insurance coverage. When you need to visit a doctor when you’re sick or even for a routine checkup, your international health insurance policy will cover these appointments for you.
While there is no set amount of coverage required, we recommend having at least 30,000€ in medical coverage for the first year.

Travel Reservations
Whether you are coming or leaving Hungary, you may be asked to show your travel reservations or proof that you have the financial means to pay for an exit ticket.
Another document that may be requested is a letter stating that you will leave Hungary after the visa and residence permit have expired, along with your exit ticket.
Do the Hungary Digital Nomad Visa Documents Need Translation?
Applicants may submit their Hungary digital nomad visa documents in English. If the documents originate in another language, it is recommended that a certified translator translate them into English or Hungarian.
What Documents Require an Apostille or Notarization?
Since applicants do not have to submit documents that are issued by another government, such as a criminal background check, none of the Hungary digital nomad visa documents require an apostille or notarization.
