Itโs important for us to mention that this is a general list of documents for the Malta digital nomad visa. As every applicant is different, your application may require additional or different documents.
So, letโs dive into the required Malta digital nomad visa documents to help you get started!
What is the Malta Digital Nomad Visa?
Officially known as the Nomad Residence Permit, Maltaโs digital nomad visa was launched in 2021 and has attracted remote workers and their family members from around the world.
This unique digital nomad visa allows remote workers to live on the islands for up to four years. The entire application process is also done online and takes around 60 days to process, making it one of the most straightforward processes for digital nomad visas in Europe.
To be eligible for Maltaโs digital nomad visa, you must meet the following requirements:
Malta Digital Nomad Visa Documents
If youโre eligible to apply for Maltaโs digital nomad visa, then itโs time to gather the required documents to prove that you are a great candidate for the visa!
๐ Copy of Passport
You must submit a copy of all the pages in your passport, even the blank pages, in your Malta digital nomad visa application.
If you plan to bring a spouse or dependents, then you must also submit full copies of their entire passports as well.
๐ Letter of Intent
When applying for Maltaโs digital nomad visa, you must submit a letter of intent. This letter should contain information about your motivations for moving to Malta and why you are applying for the Nomad Residence Permit.
For example, you could write about your remote role and your tasks, which make you eligible for the digital nomad visa. You can also include why Malta is where you would like to spend the next year or more.
The main applicant must write, date, and sign this letter.
๐ Curriculum Vitae
Think back to your time at university and your professional history since then because youโll have to include a curriculum vitae (CV) in your application.
You should include all details of your professional experience and academic qualifications.
๐ป Proof of Remote Work
There are three categories where remote workers are accepted for Maltaโs digital nomad visa: employee, self-employed, or freelance. Each category requires its own set of documents to prove their remote work roles.
In all of the cases below, applicants must provide proof that they have a guaranteed source of income for at least five cumulative months from the day they submit their applications.
Remote Employee
Remote employees must submit an employment contract that explicitly states their work duties and that they can work remotely, regardless of the location.
Self-Employed
As a self-employed remote worker, this means that you have a business entity set up, like a sole proprietorship or LLC, and work under this name with clients or businesses.
You will have to provide a Certificate of Incorporation and Share Register to show proof of your companyโs existence.
Freelancer
As a freelancer, you must submit service contracts that clearly state the services rendered to your clients and the terms of payment.
๐ค 3 Months of Bank Statements
Regardless of which remote worker category you fall under, you must submit three months of bank statements to prove that you meet the 42,000โฌ/year (or 3,500โฌ per month) income requirement.
These must be official bank statements that are issued and downloaded directly from your online bank portal or app. They can also be scanned hard copies that are officially stamped and signed.
For self-employees, you must show bank statements with your name on the account and payments from your self-employment.
