Cayman Islands Digital Nomad Visa: How to Apply

Last Updated on 30 July 2024 by Brittany

IMPORTANT: The Cayman Islands no longer offers the Global Citizen Concierge Program or digital nomad visa as of 2024. The information in this article is outdated.

Are you tired of layering in sweaters during the winter and watching your heating bill rise while working from home? Then you may be interested in the Cayman Islands digital nomad visa.

Also known as the Global Citizen Concierge Program, the Cayman Islands introduced their version of a digital nomad visa a couple of years ago. As people started to realize they could work from anywhere, these Caribbean islands started to look pretty ideal for a place to live and work from. With the Cayman Islands digital nomad visas, remote workers and their families can live on the islands for two years

Located just south of Cuba, the Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory. The islands are also known for attracting wealth and offshore businesses. Residents boast about the islands’ high quality of life and how pleasant it is to live there.

The application process for the Cayman Islands digital nomad visa is done all online and the entire process takes three to four weeks

You can also bring your extended family with you on the visa. These family members include parents/step-parents, grandparents, children/step-children, spouses, and siblings/half-siblings. This is quite different from other digital nomad visas, which only allow you to bring dependents.

The Cayman Islands joins other Caribbean countries like Barbados, Anguilla, and Antigua and Barbuda in offering a digital nomad visa to remote workers.

Below, you’ll find the requirements and process to apply for the Cayman Islands digital nomad visa so that you can spend the next two years living in a tropical paradise.

What is a Digital Nomad Visa?

A digital nomad visa is a temporary resident permit for remote workers to live in a foreign country.

To be eligible for this type of visa, you must work remotely either as an employee, business owner, or freelancer with no business ties to the country where you wish to apply for the visa.

Most digital nomad visas are valid for one year – sometimes two – and may be extended once or twice depending on the country.

Cayman Islands Digital Nomad Visa Requirements

As with any visa, there are specific requirements you must meet in order to be eligible to apply for it. Fortunately, the Cayman Islands digital nomad visa does not have many requirements, making it one of the easiest visas to get.

To be eligible for the Cayman Islands digital nomad visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Valid Passport – You must have a valid passport when you submit your application
  • Meet Income Requirements – You must earn $100,000/year if applying as an individual, $150,000/year if applying as a couple, and $180,000/year if applying as a family
  • Work Remotely – You must be employed by or own a business outside of the Cayman Islands or be a freelancer with clients abroad
  • Health Insurance – You must have health insurance coverage for at least the first 30 days of your stay; then you may apply for local insurance
  • Clean Criminal Record – You cannot have marks on your criminal record

The requirement that holds most people back from applying for the Cayman Islands digital nomad visa is the income minimum. Other than that, it is a very simple visa to receive.

Steps to Apply

The entire application process is done online, making it extremely easy and convenient as there are no appointments at embassies or consulates.

Step 1: Gather Documents

Before you begin your application, it’s a good idea to get all of your documents in order to submit them. Be sure that they are all translated into English if in another language originally.

Below are the documents you will need to submit with your application:

  • Copy of Passport
  • Proof of Remote Work
  • Proof of Legal Existence of Company or Business Registration
  • Bank Statements from Last 6 Months
  • Proof of Health Insurance
  • Certified Background Check from Last 6 Months

If you plan to bring family members along, each one must submit the following documents:

  • Copy of Passport
  • Evidence of Marriage or Civil Partnership (if applicable)
  • Proof of Relationship for Children (if applicable)
  • Certified Background Check from Last 6 Months
  • Proof of Health Insurance

Once you have collected and digitized the following documents, you can start filling out the application.

Step 2: Submit Application

You will complete the online application through this website and upload all of your required documents.

To submit your application, you must also pay a nonrefundable application fee. For an individual and couple, the fee is $1,469 and an extra $500 per additional family member. These fees must be paid yearly to hold the visa.

If paying by credit card, there is a 7% additional fee.

Step 3: Wait for Approval

It takes about three to four weeks to process and approve your visa application. Once approved, you will receive an official document stating that you have received the visa and can come to live in the Cayman Islands for two years.
