Montserrat Digital Nomad Visa: How to Apply [4 Steps]

Last Updated on 22 April 2024 by Brittany

Your dream of living on a Caribbean island and working remotely from a white sandy beach can come true with the Montserrat digital nomad visa

Montserrat introduced their digital nomad visa, also known as the Remote Workers Stamp, in January 2021. With this easy-to-apply visa, digital nomads can live in Montserrat for one year with the ability to renew it.

While you’re exploring this small island with a population of just under 5,000 people and lounging on black sand beaches, you can take advantage of the excellent wifi connection

The Montserrat digital nomad visa also allows you to bring your family members along to live in this gorgeous country.

During your time on the Montserrat digital nomad visa, you won’t owe taxes to the country. This is excellent news for remote workers who are tax-savvy and try to take advantage of certain tax schemes.

The application process is done entirely online and should take no more than 15 minutes too.

Montserrat joins other Caribbean islands in welcoming digital nomads and remote workers. Other countries include Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Barbados, and Dominica.

What is a Digital Nomad Visa?

A digital nomad visa offers remote workers temporary residence in a foreign country. To be eligible for this type of visa, you must earn an income remotely working as an employee, freelancer, or business owner.

As a remote worker, you do not have the right to seek employment from a local business or organization within the country where you wish to hold the digital nomad visa.

These visas are perfect for digital nomads who want to settle down in a country for a longer time period. It gives them the opportunity to truly get to know a destination and create a lifestyle and routine for themselves.

Montserrat Digital Nomad Visa Requirements

To be eligible to apply for the Montserrat digital nomad visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Valid Passport – Your passport must be valid at the time of applying for the visa
  • Work Remotely – You can be employed by or own a business located outside of Montserrat or freelance with clients outside of the country
  • Earn $70,000/year – You must prove you meet the income requirement
  • Health Insurance – You must have coverage while in Montserrat
  • Clean Criminal Record – Your criminal background must be clean

If you meet all of these requirements, then you can proceed with submitting your application.

As we mentioned before, the entire application process is done online. It should only take about 15 minutes to upload all of your documents and complete the questions.

If approved, you will bring your approval letter with you to Montserrat. Your 12-month visa term begins when you arrive in Montserrat.

Montserrat for Digital Nomads

While Montserrat isn’t necessarily a digital nomad hotspot, many remote workers do find it to be a nice refuge from their day-to-day life in their home country.

Montserrat offers the perfect setting for remote workers who want a quiet day in their Airbnb rental or apartment working from home. They can also venture to one of the many cafes or restaurants in cities like Brades.

What Montserrat is great for is taking some time to yourself to buckle down and work on professional projects and personal goals. In the time you aren’t working, you can hike up a safe volcano, relax on Rendezvous Beach, or partake in water sports around the island.

The cost of living is quite affordable in Montserrat. This could be a great trade and opportunity to save some money while living in a tropical paradise.

Though Montserrat may not be for every digital nomad, especially those looking for a large community to network with, it is perfect for those remote workers simply looking for a gorgeous change of scenery.
