Mauritius Digital Nomad Visa: How to Apply [3 Steps]
If island life is what you’re chasing after, then you need to apply for the Mauritius digital nomad visa. This small island lies in the sea between Africa and Asia but is considered an African island.
With some of the bluest waters in the world and white sandy beaches, Mauritius is quite literally a dream destination for digital nomads. While many countries are allowed to stay as tourists for six months, the new digital nomad visa extends this time.
The Mauritius digital nomad visa, also known as the Premium Visa, allows remote workers to live in the country for one year, with the option to renew for another year.
The application is free to file, and you will receive an answer within 48 hours of approval or denial.
You may bring family members and dependents with you as well. If you hold the visa, you will become a tax resident if you spend more than 183 days in the country.
Mauritius joins other tropical destinations such as Barbados, Curaçao, and its close neighbor South Africa in offering a digital nomad visa.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
If you are new to the idea of working remotely while traveling, you may be wondering, what is a digital nomad visa?
A digital nomad visa allows remote workers to claim temporary residence in a foreign country.
The applicant must work remotely for a company, clients, or own a business outside of the country where they wish to obtain a digital nomad visa.
It’s important to note that a digital nomad visa does not entitle the holder to search for employment opportunities in that country.
These digital nomad visas are great for those who want to settle down for a year or two and truly get to know a place while working remotely.

Mauritius for Digital Nomads
While Mauritius may not be the most popular digital nomad destination, it surely has a lot to offer. Made up of 16 islands, the islands have exchanged hands with many cultures and countries in its history, including England, Portugal, France, and the Netherlands.
That being said, Mauritius is an extremely diverse country welcoming even more diversity with digital nomads.
The most popular digital nomad city is the capital, Port Louis. Here, you’ll find affordable accommodations, coworking spaces, cafes, and libraries to work from. There is never a dull day in Mauritius, thanks to the incredible natural landscape, watersports, and ideal weather year-round.
While some digital nomads have complained about the wifi connection, it has improved over the years. To better ensure you have a solid connection, you may consider bringing a global hotspot with you.
