What is a Digital Nomad Visa?

A digital nomad visa is a temporary residence permit for people who work remotely. This visa allows you to stay in a foreign country anywhere from six months to a couple of years, depending on the country.

Those eligible for a digital nomad visa must work remotely either as a freelancer, entrepreneur, or employee for a company outside of the country they want to live in.

Most digital nomad visas don’t require holders to pay local income tax but instead, keep paying taxes to where they’re from or where their business is set up.

It’s ideal for digital nomads who want to settle down somewhere for a bit without worrying about overstaying tourist visas.

Why Bermuda?

Bermuda may not be the first destination on your list as a digital nomad, but their remote worker visa may change your mind. This British territory is quite a unique destination for digital nomads.

With excellent wifi and coworking spaces in the island’s capital, Hamilton, digital nomads can find comfortable places to set up their workspace each day. You’ll also have the pleasure of enjoying relaxing beach clubs after a long day’s work.

While the island does still offer a tropical vibe, it has an air of sophistication and business-oriented habits. This can be a huge benefit for digital nomads who don’t want to get lost in the partying and island-life atmosphere and instead have a balance of productively working while relaxing and enjoying life.

However, one of the major downfalls of living in Bermuda is its high cost of living. Before jumping to apply for the digital nomad visa, ensure you have the funds to live a comfortable lifestyle for a year on the island. However, those with a visa do not have to pay income tax in Bermuda, which is a plus.
